Artist Statement | Stephanie Sekula
Welcome to my online portfolio. I am a student living near Birmingham, UK, and I work as a
freelance artist. I have always been
passionate about art and design and will be going on to join the BA Graphics & Illustration
course later this year at university.
Animals are
usually the main feature of my paintings and drawings. I like the way each animal is
different, and enjoy the challenge of bringing their personalities
through in my work. My style of artwork is very traditional and
realistic, and I like to work mainly in coloured pencils and graphite
pencils, as well as experimenting with pastels and acrylic paints. I
also paint landscapes, which are quite different from my usual animal
pencil work as the focus is less on the detail and more on the
atmosphere and colour.
I started taking
commissions for pet portraits in late 2008, and prices start from as
little as £40. I have also started writing and illustrating a
series of children's books, you can view my first book
here.
